Case MANAGEMENT
Dataspace worked with a Product Litigation team to define a process to automate the initial entry and reporting of several thousand cases per month into the case management system. This process reduces the human resource expense that would be required to manually enter these cases into the system, as well as to assign and report these cases out to the parties responsible for managing each case. Additionally, because only electronic files are produced and managed there are cost savings that can be associated with eliminating the need to generate and deliver paper documents. This solution was so successful that it was also implemented by the Marketing & Trade team to manage breach of warranty claims.
LITIGATION TREND AND RISK FORECASTING
Frequently the seeds of long term issues are visible in an organization’s litigation history. For example, litigation may be associated with the introduction of new products, starting a few years after the product is actually introduced to the marketplace. Savvy managers, using effective business intelligence systems, can identify these trends at their start. Business and litigation strategies can be formulated to avert potential public relations and financial disasters.
OUTSIDE COUNSEL EVALUATION AND COST MANAGEMENT
Much of the legal work of major corporations is actually performed by outside counsel. The job of managing this outside counsel falls to the company’s legal department. Dataspace has worked with corporate legal departments to implement legal spend analysis systems. These Business Intelligence solutions allow corporate managers to understand the cost and effectiveness of outside counsel, frequently on a charge-item basis. Using these systems, it is not unusual for legal departments to determine that they are overspending on key areas that could be outsourced to alternative legal providers. This could result in significant dollar savings per year.
